"Zindagi mein cyber security measures nahi lia, toh kya kia?

In this day and age, who doesn't have an online presence? Even so, we often neglect the sheer significance of being secure in this digital world. Often, negligence is more of a reason than unawareness. It is seen that people who don't have the knowledge about cyber security may be more precautious than the people who do. This is based on the basic thinking of "it won't happen to me".

Cyber security negligence basically means paying insufficient attention to the process of information security in the online world. What many people these days fail to understand is how important cyber safety is. Even though the world is evolving and the new digital age is emerging, as the days go by, the risks of being hacked or falling for scams still is a prominent and possible problem.

We often tend to neglect online security in various contexts, like -

  • Organizations fail to implement appropriate security measures: while a new company is established, if enough importance is not given to cyber safety for payments and other purposes, then it can lead to many problems for all of its future users and clients.
  • Ignoring signs that could point towards potential harm to our online presence: it happens very often that we don't really pay attention to warning signs that tell us about potential scams or more about safety in the online world.
  • Disregarding the terms and conditions part of any online contract: this may be one of the top reasons why people may get into trouble in the digital world. We tend to not read or skim through the terms and conditions part of any online contract, maybe because it feels like a waste of time. This is almost equivalent to signing a blank cheque. It seems extremely important to go through all rules and regulations when it comes to cyber safety.
  • Setting up passwords that are guessable or easy to crack: several advanced websites usually make it a term that we must set passwords that are difficult to guess with numerics, signs and the alphabet cases changed in them. However many times no website takes the effort to go through these hassles as they want their website to be accessible and easier to use. Even so, we must try to ensure that our passwords are almost impossible to guess because our passwords are the key to our protection.

Negligence has come to be one of the main reasons for people falling for scams or being hacked. Adequate cyber security does require a proactive approach that involves implementing robust security measures, staying up to date with emerging threats, training employees, and regularly assessing and improving security practices. Negligence often tends to undermine these efforts and lead to security breaches. We must try to not let it affect us and pay more attention towards our safety. After all it's better to be safe than sorry, isn't it?
